You may guess what the "Children of the Night" are but I'm sure you don't have a clue of what "Day Children" are...

Well, you'll have to read the book to find out. Taryn Browning has created a whole new kind of breed. (or half-breed) that is as intriguing as evil.

I loved this story (hence the 5 stars :P)

We have a heroine that is stubborn and unnerving, and at the same time, she is witty and real. Yes, she is a "Seeker" and has special abilities, or enhanced senses, if you want to put it someway... but she is an average girl with everyday issues. And I loved that from her.

Sometimes though, she appeared to me a little weak. Meaning: she was supposed to be a "helluva" Seeker that everybody fears, that had trained since childhood but in the majority of the fights, Kai had to save her.
Anyway, it's the first book in the series, and I'm sure she has time to get better :)

We also have other multifaceted characters with intricate personalities. Abram and Kai being my favorites. Ah! And don't forget Jerome lol, a totally awesome gang leader.

Kai is a great companion for Janie, annoying, funny, sexy, smart. UBER YUMMY and with a secret!
He made me chuckle several times, like this short dialogue, I just love those "smarty-pants" characters. I couldn't avoid rolling my eyes but... well... his eyes are SO green and he is so sexy that you'll undoubtedly fall for him anyway lol

- "Chill out. I'm just kidding. I'm calling my friend."
- "The witch," she said.
He stopped and pivoted to face her. She ran right into his chest.
- "I do have more than one friend, you know." (...)
- "Then who are you calling?" she said.
- "The witch."

I can very much picture Kai smirking. XD

I would truly recommend this book because you will enjoy great actions scenes, clever dialogues and a love tension that grows and grows through the story. I loved it!!! Loved it!!!

And it's only the beginning of the series! Can't wait to read "Dark Return"!!!

an ass-kicking teen saving the mean streets of Baltimore from vampires and demons and whatnot, way fun for the little sprinkles of local color (I lived in b'more for a few years, so ymmv), but deeply marred by the now-required angsty love story with an Edward stand-in.
Alright book. Characters were fine. The book was free so it was worth the the read. Probably won't buy book 2
Taryn Browning's "Dark Seeker" is the first book in the Seeker series.
Janie is seventeen and a Seeker of the dead. She does not wait for the dead to show up; she goes looking for them with the knowledge that all dead must be eliminated. That is until she meets Kai who is part demon. The battles are getting tougher and Janie must make an alliance with the Vampires in order to battle the Daychildren before they can attack and change the high school football teem.
A good basic story. Perhaps Browning could have elaberated more about what the Seekers are and why Janie must continue to repeat her teenage years as long as she is a seeker.I look forward to reading the next Seeker story in the series.
Janie is the current seeker for the Baltimore area. Her job is to kill/destroy the dead that plague the city. It used to mainly be the vampires, but a new race of daywalkers, born from vampire and demon combined, is growing stronger. Janie has one goal kill them all. That was at least until she met Kai- a daywalker with a heart.

I liked the action- this story is packed with action- mostly due to Janie's stupidity, which Kai likes to point out. She is reckless but at the same time just doing her job. This leads to tons of fights throughout the book.

But I disliked the ending (Spoiler Alert) I mean, yes we knew what was going to happen, but I would have liked it better if we just knew if Kai was going to stay or not- we didn't need her to spend the night with a guy to get a good ending.
Did she even like her father- After finding out who killed her father, she doesn't seem to mind too much. I would expect the character to care more if someone they loved was killed and they find out who.

I found the book okay. I got it free during a free download time, so you can't beat that for a price. I think fans of the vampire genre will like this one.
DARK SEEKER by Taryn Browning is a fun, fast-paced read with a whole new breed of vampires and one of the hottest guys to hit YA fiction.

I absolutely love the world Taryn Browning created. Seekers hunt vampires, but this isn't the sort of mythology you're used to. Browning added a whole new spin onto it, but I don't want to give anything away. Let's just say that her new breed of vampires will take the species to a new level. I also loved the way she incorporated Native American lore into the story, by relating it to the Seekers.

Speaking of our Seeker, the protagonist Janie is a great character who will be a fabulous role-model for teenagers. She's strong, spunky, and isn't afraid to say what's on her mind. She's also a great vampire hunter. Taryn Browning excels at writing fight scenes, and when Janie is battling vampires you'll feel like you're right there beside her, rooting her on to win. Janie doesn't do everything alone though -- her mom Isabelle and her mom's boyfriend Abram serve as excellent mentors throughout the book.

I saved the best for last .... KAI! I loved Kai. He is ... well, I'm not going to give away what he is, because that would spoil the story for you, but he is HOT! However, it's not only his looks that make him appealing, but his personality as well. He and Janie have some fabulous witty banter, but you'll also get to see a deeper side of him when Taryn gives you a few glimpses of what's going on from his point of view. His love story with Janie is sweet, and will also leave you wanting more.

DARK SEEKER was a fantastic debut novel, and one that I highly recommend. I can't wait to read the rest of the SEEKER series to see what Browning has in store for us!
