Richard laymon is the best as far as I'm concerned, there will never be anyone else like him. But we do have keene, and little also. Who else do we need.
I originally found this book in the free books box at the library 13 years ago at the age of 14. I was enthralled by the story line which is completely original. This book gripped me like none had before and really sparked my interest in adult fiction and reading in general. When I found it again here I didn't hesitate to order it and found the gore and suspense to be just as gripping before. layman writes with a flow that just works for me and doesn't leave out the details. Buy this book and decide for yourself.
It was good scary horror but a little too short. If it was longer with a better ending it would of been great.
A lot of Richard Laymon's novels may be formulated, but they are always superbly written and damn fun to read. Midnight's Lair is no exception. The main character could have been the female lead from a dozen other Laymon titles, but still felt fresh and exciting. While Midnight's Lair may not be on par with Traveling Vampire Show, it is still a top notch horror read.
Would not put this book into the same category as Mr. Laymon's "Creepy and gross out" books. However...the story was well thought out and the characters were well developed, it kept my interest. I would have given this book five stars because it is Layman but just could not do it....not enough gore and terror in the book like his others.
Would like to add that if you like Richard Layman you will more than likely enjoy this story just don't expect a "Beast House!"
If you read LAYMON... U knw this hard to find in English!!! Not on kindle! Was GREAT!! Last Laymon book for me!! Have read all!!! From reviews I found Crouch, Kilborn, Konrath!!! GREAT READS!!! Never b another Laymon though. I also found Iain Robert Wright recently... FINAL WINTER... Was a GREAT read...
